For 10 weeks every summer, thousands of men and women ages 16-22 leave behind the comforts of home to travel on charter busses. They get sunburnt, injured, and take a physical beating to perfect an 11 1/2 minute show which they will perform on a semi-daily basis for those 10 weeks. For what you ask? Nothing more than the love of the art.
Ohio Valley Thunder salutes those people with their Season 8 program "The Boys (and Girls) of Summer"

Power. Passion. Anguish. Intensity. Emotion.
Someone who listens to the music of Dmitri Shostakovich will frequently use these descriptions to describe what they have just heard. These are fitting adjectives for a man who struggled against conformity and opression to make his creative vision a reality. Through the sounds of his Fourth Ballet Suite, and First and Twelfth Symphonies, OVT portrays the rebellion, isolation, and final liberation of Shostakovich's vision in "Heart of Darkness".

This season OVT takes you around our world via music. So get in, buckle up, and enjoy the ride!
Our tour starts in jolly ol' England with a short introductory statement of ''Rule Brittania" before sweeping into Holst's "March" from "First Suite in Eb".
The tour next goes to the wilds of the Africa, exploring the "dark continent" with the piece of the same name in Robert W. Smith's "Africa".
We next visit the Asian country of Korea, with the lush sweeping sounds, in the Korean "hill song", "Arirang".
Another stop in Europe, in the spicy sounds of Spain in the ever popular ''Malaguena", we have fused this with the brash favorite "Malaga" for the best of Spain.
Finally the tour comes home to the good ol' United States with a medley of our beloved songs. We begin with a lone trumpet welcoming us home, and reminding us how beautiful our coutry is with "America The Beautiful", we then pay tribute to our march king John Philip Sousa in one of his most beloved marches ''The Stars and Stripes Forever'', and finally the show ends with a sweeping finale of our national athem, ''The Star Spangled Banner".

"Da dat dat da dat dat!", we all know that familiar lick from the 1985 Nintendo sensation Super Mario Bros. Now OVT brings the music from the classic to the field. The show opens in the familiar theme from the first level. Next the contras are featured in the "Underworld" theme. The waltz from the underwater level is featured in the third movement along with the mellophone and pit percussion.
The show comes to a fiery finale with the castle theme, and just as Princess Peach is rescued time begins to run out and a double time reprise of movement one is played, and as the clock runs down, the familiar "game over" lick is heard and the show comes to a close.
