OVT Making some changes

7.7.08

The past few days have been leading to some changes in the "Symphonic Voice" show.

"We knew something just was not clicking" said show designer Jack Morgan, "we started seeing it more and more throughout the first week of competition; and then about 8-nights ago at the Valdosta show, we finally figured it out. Immediately when I got back to the bus that night, I started to rearrange some things. Then a couple of days ago we were in Hendersonville, and I passed the new stuff out to the kids. They seem to like it much better, it already looks ten times better than what we had before, so hopefully, it will pay off for us."

"I think our biggest problem was trying to force this to gel" commented 4th-year euphonium player Ryan Griffin, "we were working really hard to get a few sets towards the middle of the show to work, and for whatever reason, it just wasn't happening. Then a couple of days ago, the staff approaches us with this new idea, and within a few runs, we were already noticing a difference."

"It is starting to look and sound better" said Morgan, "and I think the kids feel more confident, so that is always a plus."

"Absolutely," said visual caption head Ben Rolley, "I've been here for 3 seasons, and these kids will chug out whatever you throw at them just about. Before, I could look at them and almost get a sense of uneasiness during the stretch in "Animal Crackers" that was giving them fits. To begin with they were marching at almost double their playing tempo, so it definitely felt awkward to be playing this lush Brahmes-esque music about a cow, while marching around like a bee. Now that we've redone that section so the drill and the music jive more, it looks much better."

Those new changes will debut tonight in Lexington, let's see what happens.
