The Dance

In our second season of competition, one hornline member put the Garth Brooks classic on the Hornline bus' pre-show CD. Mid-season, some members of hornline got together in a huddle, and would sing this song before a show. Gradually more and more people got together in those huddles, until the entire corps was involved. By the beginning of the next season it had become a staple with the first peformance being at the OVT pre-season show for the culmination of Spring Training and continued throughout the season, and is now a regular part of the pre-show. After Season 5, it was voted on, and ''The Dance'' became the corps' official corps song.

The Dance
by: Garth Brooks
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance

Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd have had to miss the dance

Country Roads

Since the first season, "Country Roads" has been a staple in the OVT repertoire. The song is played at encores, and in the lot, sometimes in the company of our little brother corps, Storm Troopers. The song is also done in a 4 part SATB harmony setting.

Country Roads
by: John Denver
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze

Country roads, take me home to the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama, take me home, country roads.

All my memories gather round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye.

Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain mama, take me home, country roads.

I hear her voice in the morning hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And driving down the road I get the feeling
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Country roads, take me home to the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama, take me home, country roads
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama, take me home, country roads.

Amazing Grace

Since Season 3, another staple in the OVT repertoire has been the traditional hymn "Amazing Grace". The song is played by the hornline at almost every encore.

My Home Among the Hills

New for Season 8, in celebration of our 5th anniversary, brass arranger Daniel Holderby, arranged a beautiful setting of "My Home Among the Hills" for the corps. It is played also at encores.

My Home Among the Hills
by: E.W. James

There's a land of rolling mountains
Where the sky is blue above.
And though I may roam, I hurry home,
To those friendly hills I love.

Where moonlit meadows ring
with the call of whipporills
Always you will find me in my home among the hills
And where the sun draws rainbows in the mist
Of waterfalls and mountain rills
My heart will be always in the West Virginia Hills

There, autum hillsides are bright with scarlet trees
and in the spring, the robins sing
While apple blossoms whisper in the breeze
And there is music in the flashing streams
and joy in fields of daffodils
Laughter through the happy valleys
of my home among the hills
